AI in Recruitment: Why Experience Still Matters in a Changing Landscape

Recruitment has always been an industry shaped by change. Processes evolve, tools improve, and technology continues to influence the way we work. The industry never stands still. Artificial intelligence is simply the latest chapter in a long history of change, and like every advancement before it, it brings both opportunity and responsibility.

AI is now being incorporated into many recruitment processes, from automated screening and shortlisting to compliance checks and data management. Used well, these tools can improve efficiency, reduce administrative load, and support more consistent processes. Ignoring these developments isn’t realistic, nor is it helpful.

At the same time, experience teaches you that efficiency alone does not equal good recruitment.

Recruitment has always required judgement, context, and the ability to read between the lines. A resume can show skills and experience, but it rarely captures motivation, values, communication style, or potential. These are things that only come through conversation, observation, and professional insight developed over time.

At CBC Staff Selection, we are open to process improvements and technology that genuinely adds value. We stay informed, we adapt, and we evolve alongside our clients. But we are also very clear on where human expertise remains essential, particularly in candidate screening and decision-making.

Technology can help manage volume and support structure, but it does not replace the ability to ask the right questions, to notice what isn’t said, or to understand how someone might truly fit within a team or organisation. That insight comes from experience, not algorithms.

The real skill in modern recruitment is knowing how to balance both. It’s about using technology to work smarter, while protecting the human connection that sits at the heart of great hiring outcomes.

Progress doesn’t mean losing the personal touch. In recruitment, it means strengthening it.
