Why CBC Staff Selection Wore Purple on Fridays This May

Throughout May, you may have noticed something a little different around the CBC Staff Selection office: a sea of purple every Friday.

This year, our team proudly took part in the Purple Shirt Fridays campaign led by Rotary Cairns Sunrise to help raise awareness of domestic and family violence across our community.

While the campaign has now concluded for another year, we felt it was still important to share why we participated and why initiatives like this matter.

Purple Shirt Fridays is more than simply wearing a colour. It is about standing together, creating conversations, and showing support for individuals and families impacted by domestic and family violence across Far North Queensland.

Why Purple Shirt Fridays Matter

Domestic and family violence continues to have a significant impact on communities across Cairns and Far North Queensland.

Throughout May, Rotary Cairns Sunrise encouraged local businesses, families, workplaces and community members to wear purple every Friday as a visible show of support for respectful relationships and violence prevention.

At CBC Staff Selection, we believe workplaces have an important role to play in creating safe, respectful and supportive environments.

As a recruitment agency working closely with employers, candidates and organisations across Cairns, Townsville and Regional Queensland, we know these issues can affect people from all walks of life, including within our workplaces and communities.

For us, participating in Purple Shirt Fridays reflected our values as a people-focused business committed to community connection, respect and wellbeing.

Supporting Local Domestic Violence Services

One of the most meaningful aspects of the campaign was that proceeds directly supported local domestic violence services.

Purple shirts purchased through Rotary Cairns Sunrise contributed funding back into local support services, helping provide practical assistance within our own community.

Reflecting on Community Action

The campaign may have been centred around Fridays in May, but the message extends well beyond a single month.

At CBC Staff Selection, we know meaningful change often starts with conversation.

Sometimes it is the small, visible actions that help keep important issues front of mind, whether that is supporting community initiatives, encouraging respectful workplaces, or simply checking in on the people around us.

Our team has always believed in supporting the Far North Queensland community through both business and community engagement.

By taking part in Purple Shirt Fridays, we were proud to stand alongside Rotary Cairns Sunrise and our wider community in supporting awareness around domestic and family violence and advocating for respectful relationships.

Because everyone deserves to feel safe, supported and respected, both at home and at work.
